Undressing Nationality

Undressing Nationality (2017) was a live body performance devised by Philip Lee and Cally Trench and performed by Philip Lee with lots of clothes, glasses and drinks at PASSPort Britannia at Safehouse 1, London, curated by Rekha Sameer on 30 July 2017.

Philip Lee appeared in front of a table laden with bottles of drink and glasses dressed in many layers of clothes. Each layer represented a particular nationality. As he disrobed from one national dress to another he offered a member of the audience a glass with an appropriate drink, the origin of which was the country of the national dress.

A sequence of photographs and Undressing Nationality, a time-lapse film, both photographed and edited by Cally Trench, were also part of the two-day exhibition.
